12 Years a Slave ensures fighting slavery stays top of agenda

Those of you who’ve watched the film ’12 Years a Slave’ (Academy Award winner and now tipped for Oscar glory) will know how harrowing and unforgettable it is.

Of course, the tragedy also is that slavery is rampant in our society today, but due to its undercover nature, is not seen as dramatically or obviously by those in power.

As our government draws up its draft Modern Slavery Bill, our request to them is to place victim protection at its heart, and to give those who’ve been through this horrendous crime the chance that they are owed in life to start again.
