Prevention of Modern Slavery Conference 10/11/16

On Thursday 10 November a half-day conference on the Prevention of Modern Slavery was held in Croydon. CCAT’s Peter Cox chaired the Conference. Since the conference took place just a day after the terrible Croydon tram disaster a 2 minute silence was observed in remembrance of the victims and their families.

The first half of the conference related to ongoing work to identify victims of modern slavery, and the support and accommodation provided. The second half included details of Croydon Council’s multi-agency approach to tackling modern slavery, and its action plan. The speakers were from a range of agencies and charities, as well as council members, who, between them, provide extensive support to victims. All emphasised the great need for more to be done – especially for longer term support.
